Reiki is a form of energy healing. Most Reiki practitioners today follow the teachings of Mikao Usui who developed the practice in the 1920's.
A practitioner delivers energy to you through their hands to help improve the flow of energy around your body. When the energy in our bodies is not flowing with ease, we find we are not functioning very well, let alone able to heal when we are unwell.
Reiki is an intuitive method, so can be practiced in different ways depending on the practitioner and client, and can be different every time you receive a session depending on what the client's body needs at the time.
The practitioner will place their hands on or just above your body to feel the flow of your energy and help move or cleanse any blockages. A Reiki session can be anywhere between 15 minutes to an hour and a half depending on your needs. Most sessions are between 30 - 60 minutes.
In 2019 I enrolled to do a class in Reiki 1. I remember thinking at the time, "Is that it? I've been doing this my whole life!" I loved how natural it felt to me, so much so a few months later I followed it up with the Reiki 2 class. I was so happy to discover a formal and recognised method to something I had been doing intuitively my whole life.
I started practicing more often on myself, family and friends, helping to create some ease when energy wasn't flowing freely. Reiki served as a calming aid through some of the harder days when I was caring for my mum through her cancer journey. I am so happy to now offer Reiki sessions for clients in my tranquil space.
When I use Reiki on someone else, I usually focus on the head and shoulders area, feeling and visualising energy in their body and also working with the Chakras. I have found this to be very comfortable for both the receiver and myself.
