Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a complementary therapy that works with the energy flow through your body. Most Reiki practitioners today follow the teachings of Mikao Usui who developed the practice in the 1920’s.
When the energy in our bodies is not flowing with ease, we find we are not able to function well, let alone able to heal when we are unwell. A practitioner channels Reiki energy to the client with their hands to improve the flow of energy around their body.
Reiki is an intuitive method, so it is practiced in different ways depending on the practitioner and their client. It can be a different experience every session for both the client and the practitioner because it is guided by what the client’s body needs on that day.
The practitioner will place their hands on or just above the client’s body to feel the flow of their energy. When they do this they guide the flow of energy to help move or cleanse any blockages and create ease in the energy flow around the client’s body. A Reiki session can be as short as 15 minutes or as long as needed for the client on that day. Sessions are usually between 30–60 minutes.

My Reiki Journey
In 2019, I enrolled in a Reiki I class. I remember thinking at the time, “Is that it? I’ve been doing this my whole life!” I loved how natural it felt to me, so much so that a few months later, I followed it up with the Reiki II class. I was so happy to discover a formal and recognised method to something I had been doing intuitively my whole life.
I started practicing more often on myself, my family and my friends, helping to create ease when energy wasn’t flowing freely. Reiki served as a calming aid through some of the harder days when I was caring for my mum through her cancer journey. In 2022 I started offering Reiki sessions for clients in my tranquil space. The more I have worked with Reiki, the more I have noticed that no two clients are the same. Even two sessions with the same client, can be very different. Everybody’s body communicates differently in ways that are relevant and recognisable to the client. It amazes me how my client’s body shows me where to focus and what it needs on the day, in a different way every time.
When I am conducting a Reiki session, I usually focus on the head and shoulders area, feeling and visualising the energy flow in their body and also working with their Chakras. I have found this to be very comfortable for both the client and myself.
